<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Date : TUESDAY 27th December 2016
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Location: Manvers Arms, Cotgrave
Hares<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">:Butcher's Dog and Sausage
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Weather: Bright and sunny winter's day
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Pack size: 16
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">The Quorn Hash first ran from the Manvers Arms in Cotgrave in July 1997 (Run 213) when the trail was set by a certain Too Tuf and Pleasure Gnome (!?). Since then, until now, we had run from here only a further two times - July 2003 (Sybil's Snot and PE) and September 2009 (Shagulater). We find it hard to forget when we have an On Inn with no beer, as it was in 2003, and we've held a grudge ever since! The good news is this pub has been transformed by the current landlords since 2013 and now looks like an excellent hash venue with decent beer and plenty of room to sit. Indeed, the food menu looks good (Wednesday eating group with a running problem take note!)
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Another good turnout for this end-of-year Tuesday run with hashing visitors (Frogney and Borderline), and a welcome back to Huffamoose on his biannual run. Even Mrs Pre-Mature (Margaret) was seen walking on the the trail with a limping Puss 'n Boots who must have been overdoing it a bit in the Pantomine season.

The trail was well constructed going in directions we expected it not to go, including a poor call on a false trail up the road to Clipstone which Bummer got the blame for. Plenty of shiggy underfoot but a lovely sunny winter's day to be out hashing. Malteaser had obviously learnt from Seaman Stains the art of walking very fast on the hash, leading the majority of the pack to wonder why they were making any pretence of putting one foot in front of the other in a running sort of way.

The return back into Cotgrave reminded us this used to be a mining village including an extra loop at the end into the fringe of what is now a nice country park.

The pub car park is a pay and display, I guess because Cotgraveans might think about using this as a Park & Ride into Nottingham. The more money you put into the machine the bigger your redemption in the pub!

It was good to have the Beer Master here to do his job and RA Chicki back under the collar after an unusually long absence of a month.

The following awards were made:
1. Lily the Pink for misplacing her cool running shades;
2. Puss 'n Boots for running shoes new to this hash (though technically he could have claimed he didn't run in them);
3. Huffamoose welcome back;
4. Bummer, who got the blame for the bad checking up towards Clipstone;
5. Butcher's Dog, master baker for making Lily the Pink bake rock cakes instead of bakewells. Well she is a geologist!;
6. Pre-Mature who showed more concern for Lily the Pink this week (having ignored her fallen body on a previous hash);
7. Borderline, ex-Yorkshire hasher was welcomed to QH3 in the traditional manner (unfortunately Frogney had already departed for Exeter);
8. Margaret to her surprise (she was lurking to try and avoid the circle) received an award for her Skyping abilities;
9. Too Tuf for being a naughty boy (would you like a list from the RA?);
10. Malteaser who now has a plastic dot to talk to called Alexa;
11. Durex, absent from the A-team this week;
12. Hares Butcher's Dog and Lincolnshire Sauage for setting the trail. Depending how you want to use the term 'mean', they received a secret ballet vote of between 45 - 69%; and the dregs went to
13. Chicki, a welcome back after a month's absence.

So that's how 2016 and this Blog ends.....?
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">A really good turnout for the Quorn Jingle Balls trail including two newcomers - Tim and Polly. A rare Ashby run NOT from the Plough Inn, instead a new addition on the high street, namely, 'The Tap at 76'. This outlet for the Tollgate microbrewery is an excellent addition to the Quorn H3 On Inn portfolio and certainly a place to visit if you like real ales and ciders. It was a nice touch to provide free cups of tea for the drivers.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Mercifully, Gobalot had sworn a vow of silence so as not to harm her voicebox for the afternoon's carol concert. We had a peaceful run. It was a tortuous trail around the outskirts of Ashby visiting many parts I'd not been to before. The route was well marked with nicely rounded balls of 'snow' though the bars on the first foot-bridge across a stream did cause the newcomers some confusion. Afterall, this was a trail with B*gg*er's involvement! We were warned to watch out for several sudden changes in direction - these worked as well as any check. A trail from a microbrewery pub AND passing a cake factory - what more could you want from a trail. The pack was well spread with groups of walkers and r*nners and IP and Sweet Pea somewhere in between.
This was an excellent turn out for the annual MH3 Christmas trail including Nose Job and Soggy Balls from the Bull Moon Hash and Mary, a new hasher from Etwall. Beer Barbie and Ond also made a suprise return appearance.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">The trail was just right for a Christmas trail, not too long and a well decorated Christmas tree in the middle of nowhere. This tree was close to the 'false' bar on the Mickleover railway trail so hashers regrouped around it to sing a few carols whilst the On On was sought. Although from Mickleover myself, I rarely get around a trail here without going badly astray. Tonight was an exception.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Hashers assembled upstairs in the Masons Arms. I never realised there was a room upstairs but then I've never gone into the Ladies here before either. Mrs Dobber provided the excellent mince pies and, in the tradition of the MH3 Xmas trail, tonight there was no circle but free beer for everyone.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Thanks to Dobber and Lionel the hares for the evening. Hashy Christmas everyone.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">A decent sized pack for the AH4 2016 Xmas trail set around the Churnet Valley in Staffordshire. Rain in the previous 24 hours (shame it wasn't snow) made this a very shiggy run in parts and faded the flour made checking false trails challenging. Nobody went missing and there were plenty of opportunities for shortcutters and walkers alike. The hares showed no Christmas spirit on the false trails which were long and, more often than not, uphill or downhill. At times the flour was hid like parcels under the Christmas tree. This had to be a very a good run as it included a mince pie and mulled wine stop, signed as "mpn" (mince pies near). On the trail, somewhere in the wood, we also passed a grotto with a Christmas theme, though the hares probably had nothing to do with this.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Alas, at the Ramblers Retreat there was no room at this On Inn on account of the numerous festive diners. Instead, we moved up the road to the Alton Bridge Hotel where the hares had booked us a table. On arrival we went straight into the hash circle at which awards were made ranging from an excellent ale to water with ice cubes. First off was Totem Pole<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"> welcomed back to AH4 after a long while, as was Smutley<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">. Hares Mama Rose<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"> and ASB<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"> were thanked for setting and excellent trail with mince pie stop and mulled wine. Horse's Arse<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"> was deemed to be today's FRB which left Diarrhoea<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"> as today's NODDY (Not Offered a DD Yet) and he had to drink what was left - unfortunately for him just a cold fizzy coke.
RUN #924

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Date : Sunday 4th December 2016
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Location: Final Whistle, Southwell
Hares<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">:Pre-Mature and Slug
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Weather: Sunshine but cool
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Pack size: 13
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Today we travelled to the far NE-corner of our hashing realm to Southwell, an area only used by this hash on two previous occasions. Well worth the long journey on a lovely day to run mainly virgin trails from an excellent real ale pub. The Final Whistle is a place worthy of a stop if you're ever in Southwell.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">At 10:55 it looked as though this was going to be a very small pack with just the hares, relatives and friends plus Malteaser and myself. Just before the On Out Shagulater, Miss Takemenow, Butt Plug and then Sweet Pea and IP all appeared. So that gave: two hares, four r*nners (including John a virgin hasher from Cumbria), three walkers and the two true hashers that couldn't said to be r*nners but move faster than the walkers, namely, IP and Sweet Pea.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Lily the Pink pushed the pace and worked hard at the checks to ensure the pack was happy on her father's run. IP and Sweet Pea went missing pretty soon after the start, though did manage to catch up with the hare at points around the trail. Butcher's Dog and Sausage gave us all a 10 minute start having being held up by a very large convoy of Santas on motorbikes.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">The hares used the principal that it was straight on unless marked otherwise which would have proved economical with the flour had it not been for all the arrows to keep the pack on track. Few checks towards the end meant FRBs Lily the Pink, Saugsage and Butcher's Dog (i.e. anyone in front of me) were able to stretch their legs. Not so Butt Plug for whom the weight of the Christmas post was beginning to take its toll.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">The circle was held in the "station yard", Sweet Pea and IP providing appropriate songs when the following DDs were given:
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">1. IP for displaying his knees on such a cold day;
2. The hares Pre-Mature and Slug were thanked for a splendid morning out and a secret ballot gave the run a 43%;
3. Shagulater was at the hash today, much to the disappointment of the stand-in RA. On a nice day like this he should have been doing jobs in his new allotment which he expects me do all week long. He got his wee DD as he promised to go digging after the hash;
4. Puss 'n Boots, fresh from a pleasing 7-1 thrashing in Mansfield, turns up on the hash without paying or running, and stands in the circle with his hands in his pockets. So he got a DD just to see what he's missing;
5. Visiting virgin John was welcomed to the hash, he recited a Glaswegian poem for us;
6. Sweet Pea had been complaining about the cold and was going blue. She was given a cold beer to warm her up;
7. Postman Butt Plug was giving sustenance to get him through the next two weeks of Christmas post; and
8. The RA had a hunch that Malteaser would not pass all those apple trees without scrumping and rightly awarded a DD for scrumping whilst hashing.

Two weeks time is our Christmas trail. Get your Santa costumes and decorations ready - details will be on the web page www.quornh3.org.uk (or www.quornh3.co.uk if you're Capt Oates).
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">This was the freezing cold sort of evening you probably wouldn't go for a run, unless it was a hash. Indeed, with Malteaser, I did the trail twice, setting it and sweeping it as a hare. Being a relatively short trail to lay, we did manage to get 40 mins to warm up in the pub before setting off for the second time.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">The majority of the trail was off-road along dimly or poorly lit paths, <span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">with the exception of the last quarter.<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"> <span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">A torch was very necessary though some managed without one. The RA did set out torchless but finished with one. Is there no limit to the powers of our RA. She said 'let there be light' and a torch appeared from nowhere.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Wee Willy (Winkle) was running all over town, though not in his nightgown, just a kilt. He certainly ran his fair share of false trails though probably not as far as Trianal. Lily the Pink went down on the darkest bit of the trail. Was she tripped by a competative hasher? Or was she looking for more decorations to photo?
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">During the indoor circle the following awards were made by the RA:
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">1. Expecting to give a DD for the torch as lost hashing property, Chicki had to take the first DD for conjuring it up out of nowhere, it wasn't a hasher who lost it;
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">2. Wee Willy, a recently married returner was welcomed back;
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">3. Durex for competitive hashing after informing the RA that, if she keeps missing QH3 trails, by the time he is 85 he'll have done more Quorn runs than her;
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">4. Butt Plug, originally brought forward for more competitive hashing ("did I win trail 515?") got a hashy birthday DD;
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">5. Pre-Mature for the pre-run flashing of the RA;
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">6. Trianal for his use of a training app;
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">7. I was chatting to Chicki at the back of the pack and espied Malteaser doing a shortcut. "What are the chances of her leading Too Tuf astray?". "None" came the reply as Too Tuf appeared doing his own shortcut, for which he was duly awarded;
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">8. Malteaser took the hares DD for a trail which I could say was awarded 100% but I can't as no score was given. No sheep but interesting Christmas(?) decorations; and
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">9. Finally, the dregs went to Lily the Pink, not for her fall, but for taking it easy today and hence disappointing the RA who thought she was doing rather well to keep her in sight.
I was stand-in RA and the storm went south instead.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">We had a small well formed pack with three walkers, two intermediates, and two runners(?) plus the hare. Today Barritone was in the A-Team. We have had run trails in this area many times but never a route of this this shape! (see the GPS map trace below). The hare, with some recycling of the trail and some deft flour relaying, set a very clever trail that kept us guessing as to "where next?" Up on the ridge past Hopwell Hall we had a fantastic view of the Trent Valley. New on the trail was an information board about the story of the Risley Lanx .
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">After the night's heavy rain there was plenty of shiggy, non-moreso than on the last climb back to the On INN. I espied shortcutters IP and Sweet Pea slowly crawling up this hill from half-a-mile away and almost past them on the same spot. I say shortcutters, I think they probably did over five miles. Mine was a long trail of 7.7 miles which included a lot of checking and going back to mark the checks for a distant Barritone.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">This was a hash with a lot going on. The trail was done under the light of a supermoon, the last time we may have seen it this big Lionel was only 2 years old and the other three birthday celebrants (Seaman Stains, Oriface, and Catflaps) weren't even born. With the moon at its 'perigee' it is 5% bigger than average. Although cloudy we did get several good glimpes of the full moon out on the darkness of the trail. I look forward to seeing the next one on MH3 run 497 in 2034.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">We also had a newcomer to MH3 - Ernie - a hash virgin a week ago but did his first trail with QH3 eight days before and has already 'earned' a hashname. If you've got an hour to spare Gobalot will explain its origin.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Seaman Stains was still here and took the opportunity to set the r*nners trail. Whilst the many walkers strolled around the small village that is Etwall, other hashers were sent on a trip to Hilton that included a long stretch of 1.7 miles along the Mickleover cycle path. Oriface recorded a distance 5.0 miles and time of 1hr:00min:00sec - a perfect distance and time for a hash trail.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Weather: Cold and overcast, rain at 12:10
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Pack size: 15
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Goblin and B*gger stepped in at short notice to set this trail, the latter with a doctor's note to say he couldn't run. There was a good sized pack including newcomer and hash virgin Mark.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Shagulater was showing of his recently gained tan by turning up in shorts (not Bermuda ones) and shirt and found he had to run round the trail to keep warm. B*gger was left to look after walkers (Malteaser, Miss Takemenow and Wallington) whilst Goblin had the more arduous task of looking after the r*nners. Newcomer and orienteer Mark soon learnt that the object of hashing is not to get from A to B directly, just to Get to the Pub Sooner (GPS). FRBs and walkers just about got back to the On Inn as it started to rain. Your scribe being one of them I can officially record this as a dry run maintaining the RA's incredible feat of weather control.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">At the On Inn, Mark was quick to volunteer to the pub landlord to go and get some milk for the tea drinkers and hence returned to a chorus of 'Ernie the fastest milkman...'. A hash naming on his first run was then a certainty.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Unlike the Ashbourne hash yesterday where the RA made everyone go out into the cold for the circle, the soft QH3 RA led a circle inside. Awards were given to:
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Date : Sat. 5th November<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"> 2016
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Location: Old Dog, Thorpe
Hares<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">: ASB and Hash Puppy
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Weather: Sunny but with biting cold wind
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Pack size: 10
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">For today's trail we returned to the Old Dog Inn in Thorpe, except it was called the Dog and Partridge when we were here last. That was on 3rd January 2011 (AH4 Run 16, ASB and Mama Rose hares). They've done a really great job revitalising and renovating this pub - excellent real ales, very friendly and courteous staff and good food. I must include this in my itinary next time I'm on the Tissington Trail which runs close by.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Surprisingly we didn't touch the Tissington trail today, the hares (<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">ASB and Hash Puppy<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">) uncharacteristically choosing a less level route heading out towards Dovedale. R*nners (though there wasn't a lot of that today) were compulsorily sent over the top of the 'mountain' that is Thorpe Cloud, whilst walkers were given the option of going around it. I choose the latter but Malteaser choose to go up and over. The hare did confess to me that no flour was to be found on Thorpe Cloud itself, and the sheep could readily take the blame for this! One Loose was the first 'r*nner' to arrive at the famous Dovedale stepping stones, surprising followed closely by a walking Malteaser. Road Kill, Wriggle, MK3 hasher Enema and Joanna arrived sometime after, all hashers choosing to ignore the bar on the first stepping stone.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">We had the unusual occurrence of seeing Blitzen (and child) on the trail having arrived at this popular tourist spot mainly by car. The only one missing was the Co-hare (Hash Puppy) who sensibly chose to look after the car rather than do the trail twice. The fish hook was obediently observed by four rather than three as instructed, probably on account of the fact that the hare was at the back of the pack only about 20 metres down the hill.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Location: Meadow Covert, Edwalton
Hares<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">:Too Tuf and Chicki
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Weather: Dry and mild
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Pack size: 7
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">With no red dress run this year we had the minor celebration of Halloween, well at least Butt Plug and Durex did by coming dressed for the occasion. However, our small group of seven was somewhat outnumbered by the hoards of witches, vampires and zombies roaming the streets of Edwalton.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Hares Too Tuf and Chicki stepped in at the last moment to set this trail and despite being laid a day-and-a-half beforehand the flour was mostly still intact. A strained back meant I was forced to seek a shorter route. I probably saw more of Trianal than I usually do on a trail as well selected shortcuts usually meant I arrived at most points around the trail about the same time as Trianal. Usually chased by Butcher's Dog going slower than usual as she was still recovering from a twisted ankle.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">The On Inn was well decked for Halloween so I felt quite at home whilst waiting for the pack to arrive. Unusually for QH3, more than half those present had solids which delayed the start of the circle. No rest for the hares with Too Tuf as stand-in Beermaster to fetch the beer and Chicki doing her usual duties as RA. Awards were given:
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">1. Smutley for having 'a crack in front';
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">2. Trianal for his pre-hash warm-up;
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">3. Durex and Butt Plug for taking the trouble to dress up for Halloween; and finally
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">4. The hares were thanked for setting the trail and awarded a score of forty-six and a turd percent as it passed a sewerage works.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">There was little to announce as we have no hares for next Sunday's trail. All those present had good reasons for not volunteering. No hare, no trail next Sunday?!
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Location: Bluebell Inn, Melbourne
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Hares: Gobalot and Oriface
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Weather: Clear skies with nr. full moon
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Pack size: 10
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">The question I had before this trail was "could the hares, freshly back from their USA adventures, find a sufficiently long trail around the small town of Melbourne without resorting to night-time manoeuvers in the dark countryside?" Yes they could, and a fine trail it was. Even with a temporary fairground occupying part of the town, sufficient pathways were found including a stretch along the disused railway. Torches were certainly needed as 75% was along unlit paths/roads but no shiggy fields or the need to disturb sleeping cattle or sheep.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">The pack split in two from the start with walkers Dobber and Catflaps setting a casual pace at the back and r*nners Wriggle, Ballcrusher, Artless Dodger and myself trying to keep Trianal in sight. Seaman Stains defies classification, although walking, was seen checking at the front of the pack on several occasions. The hares popped up at random points around the trail just to make sure I was checking for bars at the end of every false trail. Just look at all those false trails I did on the GPS map link below!
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Alas the fairground was closing down as we arrived back in town - no rides on the Helter-Skelter this time.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">In the circle RA Dobber made the following awards:
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">1. Seaman Stains for walking around faster than many of the pack. Rumour has it that he is fitted with a transponder. Maybe his final MH3 hash?
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">2. Ballcrusher was seen appearing through hedges like a badger - hedge hunter.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">3. Trianal got his usual DD for being all over the place though for once on the right trail, just too far out in front to be seen or heard.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">4. Catflaps for leading Dobber astray. And I thought you just had to follow flour.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">5. Hares Gobalot and Oriface were thanked for a good trail.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Location: Duke of York, Lichfield
Hares<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">: Durex and Soggy Balls
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Weather: Lovely autumnal sunshine (again!)
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Pack size: 16
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">What a grand day out our joint trail in Lichfield with the Bull Moon H3 turned out to be. Our RA did us proud with yet another dry sunny run.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Lichfield is a lovely little city and we can't believe we've never visited it before even though we live just 25 minutes up the A38. I can even forgive them for claiming Lichfield rather than Solihull was the birth place of Dr Johnson.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">The Duke of York was an excellent On Inn, a friendly pub with excellent ales, plenty of room and real pub food snacks such as pork pies and scotch eggs. Worth a visit if you are in Lichfield.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">The Bull Moon Hash celebrates full moons with a hash trail, fittingly done this month in Lichfield at a weekend when the Lunar Society were also meeting in Lichfield with a conference celebrating 250 years of the society. Lunarticks (as they were known) have had many famous members from the scientific community including Erasmus Darwin, Josiah Wedgewood, Joseph Priestly and James Watt. They've just been going for a bit longer than the Bull Moon H3.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">A reasonable sized pack, half-and-half Quorn and Bull Moon (depending how Wriggle wanted to be classified), set off just after noon on a promised 5.3 mile trail. After just over a mile with the pack still together the SRBs led by a limping B*gger were offered the option of a shortcut. This was readily taken by a majority of the Bull Moon H3. This left Ballcrusher, Goblin and Malteaser (the 'C-Team') to do most of the checking.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Hash hound Freya showed the fishmen how not to catch fish by jumping into the fishing ponds. Being in Staffordshire there were no sheep or cows to entertain us, just a couple of horses.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Just over two-thirds around the trail was a beer stop courtesy of Soggy Balls. The walkers arrived here well before opening time but it was a most welcome drink on a warm sunny day.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">In the Duke of York we had a room to ourselves, which is probably just as well with Quorn RA Chicki trying out a full range of DD songs. Distracted by a large pork pie and hash chips I forgot to make any notes about the circle led by Stretch and Chicki. This is what I remember... though no necessarily in this order.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Hares Durex and Soggy Balls were given seperate DDs and thanked for a good trail. The former was smiling as nobody had been lost, the latter was under the supervision of his parents. Malteaser received two awards, one for not seeing a check she was standing right next to and for being overheard mentioning she could no longer fit into her waterproof trousers. This was Skid's 200th QH3 trail and she had come a long way to participate. Coach was selected as the token Bull Moon walker accompanied by hash virgin Jan (?). Nose Job was thanked for his lack of control of the said hash hound at the fishing ponds and Mad Max for showing such great appreciation of strawberry flavoured water at the drinks stop. Too Tuf's roll of honour as a Down Down champion was recited following his recently added accolade as Madrid Hash DD champion. Ballcrusher did a lot of checking today but was only remembered for the one on which he turned back on the correct trail. Well that kept the pack together allowing Stretch and Nose Job walking at the back to keep up. Then finally there was Wriggle, promiscuous regarding the hashes she associates with, mingling with many but unable to decide as to which one she belongs to.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">These joint trails are always great fun. Let's have more!
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Location: Foundary Adventure Centre, Great Hucklow
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">
This Sunday's trail was the end-point of our bunkhouse weekend in the Peak District. Friday night had seen the "back-to-school" assignments followed by a long 10 - 12 mile walk on Saturday (Gt Hucklow-Foolow-Longstone Moor-Coombs Dale-Stoney Middleton-Eyam-Foolow-Gt Hucklow). Saturday was party night (see the QH3 Facebook page for photos!) so all but one of the registrants were grateful not to be the hare for Sunday morning. The weather on Saturday had exceeded all expectations remaining dry all day whilst Nottingham was hit by heavy thundery downpours. Sunday was even better with blue skies and lovely autumnal sunshine, our RA Chicki can do no wrong at the moment.
Hare Butcher's Dog was out before most got up for breakfast. During the setting she met the unhappy farmer who bore a grudge against any groups or runners using a public path across his land, though the Tweeny incident of 3-4 years ago obviously hadn't helped.
Much of the first half-mile was down hill which may have accounted for Captain

Oates being at the front. Nice to be running with a larger than usual pack, our ranks swelled by seven hashers from Norfolk who had joined us for the weekend. After a few checks the usual FRBs became established, namely, Sausage, Lily the Pink, Puss in Boots and Trianal with myself also present to report on anything of note. By the time we got to Bradwell the pack was well spread, even with the walkers being shepherded off before this point. Out of Bradwell it was useful having a holding check so everyone could regroup and walk through the field with cows and calves.
The public footpaths of Stanlow Dale are poorly marked and differ in several places from what the maps show. After the encounter with angry farmer the hare obviously opted for the cautious approach and took us back along the well established tracks and road.
A comfortable circle was held in the lounge of the Adventure Centre, the beer master taking the opportunity to use up what drinks were left, mainly mild and dandelion and burdock, both sometimes supplemented with cream. Awards were as follows:
(1) Wallington - for strapped wrists;
(2) Slug - champion snorer;
(3) B*gger - many sporting socks have "L" and "R" written on them and B*gger still got it wrong;
(4) Twonk - organising Nash Hash 2017;
(5) Yogi - not realising that QH3 can't count past 3 so we call On-On not "three";
(6) Goblin - chef for the weekend. Round of applause for excellent food;
(7) Trianal - after yesterday's 12-mile stroll he warmed up for today's trail with a 4-mile run yesterday evening;
(8) Butcher's Dog was awarded a good run accolade achieving a higher than average of 48.2% though Barritone complained there were no brunette sheep;
(9) Basset was dobbed in by Smutley as a sinner though I missed what for as I went out the room to get another drink;
(10) Shagulater dobbed himself in for using skin cream rather than toothpaste whilst standing next to Sausage who he thought was Captain Oates;
(11) B*gger failed to workout how to lock the key in the keysafe but had fortunately failed to locked the door as he was one of the last back from the trail; and
(12) Durex for snitching on the RA's dog and Too Tuf's contribution to the Tweeny incident from many years ago.

Thanks to all who made it a wonderful weekend especially to our guests from Norfolk who add something of the exotic to the event.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Weather: A dry window in an otherwise wet day
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Pack size: 9
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">On a wet day like this you might be tempted to turn up with Wellington boots and an umbrella, though not on our hash where RA Chicki managed to open a window of dry weather for the evening. Dry weather, but still dark after 7 pm meaning we're now into the season of urban hashing for our Monday evening trails and torches very necessary. Considering the trail was laid the day before the flour had stuck remarkably well. However, there were long stretches where we ran on an ingredient of invisible flour - not even the brightest torch or hasher could find it. The hares shepherded us around and our latecoming visitor from the Boston Hash (Swedish Eagle) did well to find the ON OUT across Trent Bridge. An interesting shaped trail with two crossovers.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">What's not to enjoy about the splendid ON INN that is the Embankment with and excellent choice of beers. In the circle the RA gave the following awards:
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">1. Puss 'n Boots for stalking the trail yestersday;
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">2. Lily the Pink for failing to trust the RA's weather control and putting her phone in a plastic bag to stop it getting wet;
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">3. Smutley whose Smart car became a left luggage office just managing to squeeze in Lily the Pink's broken head torch;
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">4. Swedish Eagle, visitor from the Boston Hash and latecomer. (He concluded our circle with a song and invited us all the the Boston Marathon hash event);
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">5. Pre-Mature seen running backwards and AGAIN had a challenging time safely crossing the road;
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">6. Diarrhoea who correctly predicted where the trail would go having set a hash from Sneinton over in this direction some time ago, demonstrating that this wasn't all the virgin trail the hares anticipated; and
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">7. The hares Too Tuf and Chicki were congratulated for a good run. Passing the Cheese Cake Shop was a nice touch but lost points as it was shut. After a public vote of 35% this was further reduced to 30% when the visitor complained about not marking the start for latecomers.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">That's how my Monday evening turned out.
Location:<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"> Wheatsheaf, Bingham
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Hares: Lily the Pink and Puss 'n Boots
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Weather: Lovely sunshine
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Pack size: 14

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">In the nearly 30 years of Quorn hash history it is surprising that this was only the fifth time we've run from Bingham. Last time we visited this pub was in April 2010 and since then it has been renamed, shut down and only recently reopened in August 2016. Whilst on historical facts, one of the hares laid claim to a family connection - once run by Puss 'n Boots' Great Grandmother Susannah then Grandada Gordon and Granny Marjorie.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">The aforemention hare helped set the trail but was absent for the run, a risky tactic in the event of complaining hounds. It is very easy for any problems about the trail to be blamed on the absent hare. Last time I set a trail and then ran elsewhere with another hash, someone (Enema) broke a wrist on the my trail and my cohare had to pick up the pieces. No such excitement today. A solidly good trail. If there was an award for the oddest shaped trail (see GPS trace link below) this would be a prime candidate. And then the RA just keeps giving us wonderful sunny hashes month after month.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Today was a rare hash outing by Should be Felt who didn't have far to walk to get to the hash. She demonstrated a lot of local knowledge for the first two miles of the trail. RA Chicki was still running-in her new shoes from the back of the pack, although 'identical' to Too Tuf's they don't go as fast. This could either be attributed to shoe size or driver.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">The end of the trail had a bonus loop where, with the On Inn in sight, all but Skids and Wallington went the extra mile plus. This included the 'hares' revenge', a narrow passage between hedges where it is rumoured (that is, a rumour started by Too Tuf) that a certain hasher had to take it sideways.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">We sat out in the beer garden enyoying the September sunshine before the RA interrupted to give out awards as follows:
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">1. Malteaser for insinuating that the RA's shoes were the same size as Too Tuf's;
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">2. Butt Plug who inherited Chicki's last pair on new trainers and claimed he got lost wearing them;
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">3. Skids was welcomed back for her 198th Quorn hash. Two-hundred timer looming;
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">4. Wallington for his strapped up wrists. Why does he need to use two hands in front of the VDU?;
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">5. Durex, who on one of his many long checks choose to 'pass through the field boundary' rather than running the quarter-of-mile back again;
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">6. Diarrhoea for many sins including being a FRB, liking a big one and referring to his 'nuclear beer' (a new clear beer);
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">7. Too Tuf for insulting a fellow hasher (see earlier reference to a narrow path);
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">8. Not in this sequential order but more in context following the above, Ballcrusher received a DD for the comment that the insulted hasher should 'put it behind her';
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">With temperatures set to soar this was like a mid-summer's evening, except it got dark at 7:30 pm. It's the time of year when hashers have to adjust to running in urban areas and in the dark. Torches and bright coloured attire required. The pack managed to find its way around eventually, but only after missing a check in the 'dark patch' allowed fast-walking Seaman Stains to take the lead. Parts of the trail were familiar, other bits were new and certainly joined up in a novel way. Nobody got lost and the walkers were already back in the beer garden before the main pack arrived.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">2. Wriggle for 'window shopping', B*gger having left early escaped this award;
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">3. Smutley and Woggle coming dressed for autumn weather;
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">4. Durex the hare was thanked for the run; and
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Butt Plug trails are always contenders for 'Trail of the Year' and this could be another one, certainly gets my nomination for the best trail in September. don't often hash this side of Nottingham and, although we have hashed from Lowdham before, much of this was virgin trail. It was certainly a forager's trail with abundant damson, plum and apple trees along the way, and the odd puff ball fungi.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">For her second successive run Chicki turned up in new shoes, identical to Too Tuf's but not as fast and still with the labels on. It is becoming increasingly difficult to get away with misdemeanors behind the RA's back on the trail. Especially today as she was 'running in' her new shoes from the back of the pack.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">It's good when hashers wear bright T-shirts (the exception being fluorescent pink) because you can see them a long way ahead and on checks. Both Wednesday and Diarrhoea had bright orange T-shirts and both did a lot of checking, as did Lily the Pink in her bright blue top. Barritone was on good form with the hash horn. It is difficult to get a note out of the horn whilst running on a hash let alone after having cycled all the way from Beeston.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">I had to depart the On Inn early and missed the circle, so the following is from RA Chicki's notes:

DDs were awarded as follows:-

1. Durex - for furtive activity with plums. Durex had left the hash to wash his hair before attending an important function so Barritone stepped forward as lookie-likey.

2. Too Tuf - for sticking his knob into a bush on the run.

3. Chicki - for new shoes again.

4. Lily the Pink - for refusing to check out an overgrown footpath because a nice hare wouldn't do that to the hash.

5. Wednesday - for being the only person who felt that she should read all the instructions on crossing the road safely, which were handed out by the hare because there were a couple of busy roads to negotiate. Wednesday is a doctor but clearly still unsure of how to cross a road.

6. Wee Willie - for being very late for the run because he had gone to the wrong bus stop and then took Lily's suggestion of running to the hash seriously.

7. Butt Plug - for an excellent trail, although 58% was deducted for a couple of difficult foot paths making the trail 42%.

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Date : Saturday <span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">3rd<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"> September 2016<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"> (11:00)
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Location: Water Bridge Inn, Uttoxeter
Hares<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">: Wriggle
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Weather: Starting wet, becoming wetter
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Pack size: 10
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Today the AH4 reassembled itself for a trail around Uttoxeter set by Wriggle. We arrived in the rain, it rained even more during the run but I do believe it had stopped by the time we went home. I was reminded many times that it was the responsibility of the Religious Adviser (i.e. me) to ensure good weather. I had to explain that the subscription for 'sunny dry weather' on the first Saturday of every month had now expired, and, as the AH4 hadn't been running regularly, I hadn't renewed.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Within the first mile I was well and truly wet through, mainly due to soakings from passing cars. The flour stuck surprising well and we did manage to follow the trail all the way around. This included a visit to Adam Peaty's street bedecked with union jacks plus a short excursion to see the Adams' Family home. Only the thunder and lightning was missing. We ticked off the list of all the things the hare warned us about - stinging nettles, shiggy and a long flight of broken steps.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

After an absence of AH4 trails for 11 months everyone was a welcome back. However, One Loos got the DD as a welcome back - we did do a farewell to him and his family several years ago when he went off to New Zealand. Now they're back again. We also had two hashers from the Rutland Hash - Bummer and Canary Boy - the latter running his first AH4 trail. Both were welcomed to our hash. There was a 'river' crossing on the trail. Usually we punish those that cross bars to keep their feet dry but today it was easier to reward Jelly Knob with a DD for strictly following hash rules, rather than punish all those (i.e. everyone else) that didn't. The mismanagement committee namely, Andean Sex Beast, received an award for only managing to organise one trail in the last eleven months. Hash Puppy was one of two that did a shorter version of the trail (guess who the second was?) and she received a DD for that. Finally, the hare Wriggle was thanked for a good trail which, despite the heavy rain, was laid well enough for us to find flour all the way around and nobody got lost. <span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">RUN #914

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Date : TUESDAY 30th August 2016
Location:<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"> The John Thompson pub & brewery
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Hare: Gobalot
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Weather: Late summer sunshine
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Pack size: 11

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">With sunset at 19:58 this was probably our last daylight evening hash trail of 2016. Goodbye summer. And what a nice sunset it was - no RA needed for some splendid summer sunshine, just Durex standing in as temp RA for the day.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">There were a number of faces we haven't seen on a Quorn hash for a while. Hare Gobalot now sets as many trails as she actually runs, and then there was Oriface, stuck on 100 runs since June 2014, he has finally made it 101. It was also welcome back to Rutland hasher Bummer.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">The pack passed Bugger and Goblin arriving at the On Inn just after the On Out, though with the first bit of the trail being a three-quarters of a mile uphill stretch they soon caught up, despite Malteaser taking off as though she still had the runs. Indeed, for a trail on the Trent flood plain the hare managed to find a route with a lot of uphill. Wallington was our SRB for the day with his poorly wrists which didn't stop him walking most of this 4.5 mile trail. Trianal was also present doing his usual lots of checking and, with Ballcrusher, Lightning Rod and Oriface assisting, the pack moved around swiftly. This was just as well because after witnessing a lovely sunset we still had a couple of miles to do. Fortunately the clear sky meant we all got back before darkness.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Durex led the circle awarding:
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">1. Welcome back to Bummer;
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">2. Lightning Rod and Oriface for always checking together, the latter giving a very good impression he didn't know where the trail was going;
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">3. Wallington was given a beer to help cure his wrists, no problem doing a DD;
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">4. Trianal for starting a new job, we like to celebrate new things on our hash;
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">5. The hare Gobalot for an excellent trail even though we didn't see the puma and there was no pub quiz for us to enjoy. We actually had a secret ballot and it was thumbs up all around - that'll be a 48% good trail then; and finally, of those that had stayed for the circle,
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">6. The two remaining NODDYs (Not Offered a Down Down Yet) - Ballcrusher and Malteaser, the latter won the award for her enthusiasm at the start of the trail.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">That's the way I saw it, On On.. Durex
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">RUN #913

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Date : Sunday 21st August 2016
Location:<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"> The Spa<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">nish Bar, Ilkeston
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Weather: Warm and dry
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Pack size: 14

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Barritone, our hare for today has a penchant for finding excellent 'new' hash On Inns and associated virgin trails. Our run from The Spanish Bar in Ilkeston fulfilled all expectations with a well laid and well constructed trail from a pub with a really nice atmosphere and good beer. The pub looks like a small shop from the outside but is deceptively roomy extending a long way back with a beer garden bedecked by numerous hanging flower baskets. Many of the hounds chose to come by bus - there was a bus stop right outside the pub. Car users had to use the public car park just 120 m up the road and free to use on Sundays.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">The hare explained the usual Quorn hash markings and emphasised the need to appreciate that a bar didn't mean you always have to go back to the last check to find the correct path. It was a master class in how to lay a good trail with helpful arrows and bars to keep the pack on track and difficult checks that kept the pack together - no need for holding checks on this run. Ilkeston is blessed with disused railways and off-road public paths. Too bad some spoilsports had chosen to try and obliterate the flour markings on several parts of the trail. Barritone always uses lots of flour so this was quite difficult to do especially as the trail had been laid earlier in morning rather than the night before. One particular quarter-mile stretch of the course had been subjected to particular stringent cleansing that must have involved a bucket and scrubbing brush. What goes on in these peoples' heads?
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">In the circle the RA Chicki made the following awards:

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Too Tuf and Barritone christening new shoes

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">1. There was an abundance of new shoes with four hashers choosing to christen new footware on this trail - Jelly Knob, Too Tuf, Chicki and Barritone, the latter fulfilling a need identified some 18 months ago. Chicki was puzzled why her new shoes were the wrong size. One member of the circle was lucky to get away with suggesting it was something to do with the colour of her hair. Too Tuf pointed out that tradition states christenings are done on the left shoe, hence Barritone's first effort (see photo) had to be repeated with the right one. Hashers should also note that there are not rules on the hash (rule one), we just have 'traditions';
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">2. Continuing the theme of shoes, Sausage got a DD for squelchy shoes after the bog crossing;
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">3. Puss in Boots was caught flashing under a bridge (at the cross-over check that must have had at least five bars and even when Butcher's Dog found the correct way it was like a maze getting out of the check);
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">4. Durex was punished for being a 'girlie' and pulling up his long sock to avoid been stung by nettles. It was pointed out that girlies (e.g. Chicki and Lily the Pink) could do such wimpish things (like going out of their way to get around nasty boggy ground);
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">5. Pre-Mature, also being a 'girlie' by following them the long way around the bog;
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">6.Wee Willy for running back from his first hash in Nottingham and getting back to West Bridgford before the RA who caught the bus;
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">7. Lily the Pink for enjoying herself (?) with Too Tuf in the wood, both received DDs; and
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">8. Barritone for an excellent hash. No sheep on this trail though there was an urban fox who did a better job than many of the SRBs <span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">of finding the correct trail home<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">. Shame about the 'invisible flour' which hares have been using in recent runs. A 62% vote for the trail was well deserved.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Location: Chequers Inn, Stanton-by-dale
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Hare:Butcher's Dog
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Weather: Hot and sunny
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Pack size: 15
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">A good-sized pack and a lovely summer's evening for a run around Stanton by Dale. The hare (Butcher's Dog) promised us a c.5-mile trail and a walkers' shortcut had also been laid to cater for the usual group of MH3 walkers which this week included Beer and Loathing. It was quite apparent from an early stage that this trail was not going to go where we thought it should do. That's what hashing is about. At first it looked as though we were heading out towards Dale Abbey but then the trail cut back behind the village and headed eastwards under the M1 and into Sandiacre. There were a number of fallers again this week. I suddenly found myself two feet shorter when I put my left leg down a hay-covered hole. Fortunately, I wasn't travelling at my usual great speed and just gently keeled over. Pull-Through (?) (son of Lightning Rod) chose a slightly harder surface to trip on - a busy road - and for a second hash in a row we had blood spilt on the hash (Gobalot's scars are healing nicely).
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">No sheep on the trail this week though plenty of horses for a bit of horseplay.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">After the walkers had been diverted along a shorter route, the FRBs got a chance to stretch their legs. Good checks kept the pack more-or-less together. This included a section across the Erewash Valley golf course where the public footpath passes across half-a-dozen fairways. On a weekend a long line of hashers makes a good target for golfers, fortunately for the hash all the golfers had gone home. The hare counted us out and counted us all back in!
The MH3 August trail is usually set to celebrate Butcher's Dog's birthday and today was no exception. Cake at the On Inn guaranteed a favourable run discussion.
RA Dobber gave out the following awards:
1. Durex - abusing the RA, something about a narrow gate and the need for vaseline;
2. Lionel (Roy Rogers) - the horses caused him to move more quickly than usual;
3. Pull Through (?) - tripping over the road kerb (kerb crawling?);
4. Welcome backs for Smutley and Ballcrusher;
5. Oriface - rapidly approaching 65;
7. Butcher's Dog, the hare awarded a 'good run' to the tune of hashy birthday; and finally;
8. Gobalot - whilst our athletes are achieving medals in Rio for their skill and athleticism, she got first prize in the Ticknall village show for putting a bunch of flowers in a vase!

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Where's the summer gone? We're looking for a hare to set September's trail.
Location: The Wheatsheaf Inn, Cropwell Bishop
Hare<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">: Shagulater
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Weather: Glorious sunshine with some wind
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Pack size: 15

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">GM B*gger welcomed a good-sized pack to Run No. 912. The absence of the RA was noted and the weather was still wonderful - Durex and Butt Plug were nominated as stand-in RAs. The hare was still out laying the trail at ON OUT time and instructions were conveyed by phone. It was the fifth time we have run from this ON INN - the last time was 8 years ago when Shagulater was also the hare.
The first check at the canal was a good one, especially as several had been down the correct path but had come back before a distant third blob had been found. Newcomer Wednesday saw more flour in the first mile of this trail than she had seen on her previous two trails.
The trail was very well constructed with good checks that kept the pack together. Indeed, no need for the many holding checks the hare had deployed which betrayed his anxiety not to be caught as a 'live' hare rather than holding up the pack. It has been a while since we've had a sizeable pack of real FRBs swelled by returning newcomers Craig and Wednesday joining the usual suspects (Butcher's Dog, Sausage and Lily the Pink). These all enjoyed the extra 1.5 mile long loop added by the hare to make this a 6-mile plus trail.
In a shameless attempt to influence the run discussion the hare had organised a good supply of chip butties. This was supplemented by a Butcher's Dog birthday cake served once the circle was complete.
Durex and Butt Plug ran the circle, the RA's song book was missed. Awards (not necessarily in this order) were given to:
1. Lily the Pink - doing a good job as hash flash and posting photos on the hash

5. Butcher's Dog, unusually being the sole 'dog' on the hash today;
6. Malteaser - interfering with the hash flour;
9. Jelly Knob - who managed to get from Littleover to Cropwell Bishop by public transport on a Sunday and also succeeded in not going down on the hash today;
10. The hare, Shagulater who received a wee DD and accolade for a good trail; and lastly
11. Pre-Mature was today's NODDY (Not Offered a Down Down Yet), he'd only stayed for the the circle so he could get some cake.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Date : Monday 25th July 2016
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Location: Sir John Borlase Warren, Canning Circus, Nottingham
Hares<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">: Pre-Mature, Lily the Pink, Puss in Boots
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Weather: Dry but overcast
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Pack size: 14

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">This evening we ran from a pub whose name was marginally shorter than our list of hares. Admiral Sir John Borlase Warren (b.1753 – d.1822) was a British Royal Navy officer, politician and diplomat who must have done something special to have a pub named after him.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">With the GM absent the RA welcomed us to run 911 reminding me that this trail could be a disaster waiting to happen. Far from it. Our virgin hares did an excellent job. Their intent was clear in the first 2 miles. After promising us a flat trail, we had already been up an down the steep hill in the Park area three times and found ourselves probably no more than 250 metres from where we had started. The steps and tunnel down into the Park are always a feature worth having in a Nottingham trail and indeed much used by Too Tuf and Chicki on their city trails. The latter had no recollection of this.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">The hares did a good job of shepherding us around the trail, each popping up at various key points. No painted ladies tonight, we just had to make do with Pre-Mature in his bright yellow top, Lily the Pink with a cider in the pub named in her honour, and a Puss in Boots pop-up.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">There was a virgin on the trail today - Craig Duff - I know this because he had his name on the back of his T-Shirt. As he arrived late (at first I thought he was a jogger just joining in with us), Craig had to learn the rules of hashing as we went along. He made a good addition to the 'A-team' up at the front.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Barritone was said by a member of the public to be playing a trombone - is there no end to this man's talents. I can't even get a single note out the Hash horn.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">The hash circle was held indoors, led by RA Chicki. The following awards were made from a cocktail of drinks prepared by Beer Master Puss in Boots;

Too Tuf for reportedly 'nailing' slugs (not our Slug);

Slug - lying about setting the trail;

Barritone - trombone player;

Welcome to virgin hasher Craig;

Smutley - welcome back, a Brexit from Poland;

Durex - allegedly short-cutting and not going up the back passage at the end;

Pop-up hare, Puss in Boots;

Pre-Mature, a lot of half-truths in the run introduction. This was a flat trail with more up than down.

Lily the Pink, last of the tri-hare team who took the run decision at 63%;

Chicki for the nice tunnel that she'd never hashed along before!;

Butt Plug, assisting the RA by being chief snitch; and

Noddy (Not Offered Down-Down Yet) given to Diarrhoea.

So that was the way our July Monday hash went, On On.. Durex

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Move over Captain Oates, we now have a new hare apprentice to entertain us with their trail. Jelly Knob was today's virgin hare. Originally, Plan A was to set a trail from the White Hart in Stanley, but that was used by the Mickleover Hash during the week. So instead today's trail was laid from the Royal Oak in Ockbrook. A good place to meet with a good selection of beers. The hare promised us a trail of 5.7 miles, more like 7.5 miles the way I did it. The trail was based around five very well marked checks joined by infrequent flour blobs, even less than the hare said he had laid the previous evening. So the main trail was passed with some uncertainty and a lot of 'looking'. We visited the Hermit's Cave, a good point of reference for the hare to remember where he had laid the trail and an opportunity to regroup. We even had an Ashbourne fish-hook giving a clue to Jelly Knob's hashing origins. The fish-hook was done with little enthusiasm as Malteaser was walking a long distance behind and there was some debate as to how many hashers could get around her.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">I had to run up many of the hills to keep up with newcomer Wednesday returning for her second QH3 trail. Having had most of the flour washed away on her first trail, and not an abundance of flour on this one, she must be wondering how we mark our trails!
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">When the trail returned to Ockbrook, on two occasions I checked in directions that brought me closer to the pub, the second time with Wednesday getting within 200 m of the pub car park. Not wishing to be accused of short-cutting we returned down the hill and did another three-quarters of a mile to the On Inn. Too Tuf was observed to be carrying one of the flour blobs back to the On Inn to ensure he was always 'running on flour'. Butt Plug claimed this had reduced the hash markings by 10%.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Chicki as RA led the circle, ably assisted by the cultural attache Too Tuf showing his experience as Beer Master. The following awards were made

Wednesday - a returning newcomer who has yet to see much flour on a Quorn hash;

Butt Plug - welcome back from holiday;

Barritone - for stating the obvious. The £1.50 on the bench really was his run fee.

Too Tuf - interfering with the trail markings by carrying around a blob of flour that he found.

Durex - apart from complaining to the RA that it was too hot, also abusing Malteser with comments about how many could get around her at the fish hook;

Jelly Knob - the hare was congratulated for completing his first trail and successfully herding the pack around the trail without losing anyone which, given the sparsity of flour blobs, was a good achievement;

Too Tuf - ably standing in as Beer Master; and

Chicki - was given whatever hash beer was left to try and deal with the fly she swallowed. I refrain from commenting about old ladies and swallowing spiders.....
